Key Factors Influencing Cabinet Costs
- Cabinet Line: The choice between modular cabinetry (often more budget-friendly and quicker to install) and custom cabinetry (designed specifically for unique footprints and premium finishes) is the primary driver of cost.
- Material & Finish: The type of wood or laminate, as well as specialized finishes or paints, will impact the final price.
- Layout & Scope: The total number of linear feet and the complexity of the layout (such as islands, pantry units, or floor-to-ceiling storage) dictate the amount of material needed.
- Countertops & Hardware: Integrating premium stone or wood countertops and decorative hardware will also contribute to the overall project budget.
- Professional Services: Cabinet Fantastic provides professional measuring and design services, which are essential for ensuring a precise fit and an accurate, transparent quote.

How long will it take me to receive my new cabinets?
Lead times will vary. Quick ship products can often be delivered in 1-2 weeks. Semi-custom cabinets often take 4-6 weeks; sometimes longer during certain seasons. Your Cabinet Fantastic associate can provide you with specifics to help coordinate your delivery timeline for scheduling purposes.

Timeline Factors
- Modular Cabinetry: This is typically the fastest option. Because modular cabinets are built using standardized components, the manufacturing and shipping window is generally shorter than custom alternatives.
- Custom Cabinetry: Custom lines are built-to-order based on your home’s specific architectural requirements. Because these involve unique finishes and precise millwork, they require a longer lead time for artisanal production.
- Design & Measuring Phase: Before the clock starts on production, Cabinet Fantastic provides professional measuring and design consultations. The time it takes to finalize your design plan and approve the order will also influence your overall project schedule.
The Typical Process
- Consultation & Measuring: A professional assessment of your space to ensure a perfect fit.
- Design Approval: Finalizing the layout, cabinet style, and finish.
- Manufacturing: The production time required by the cabinet line you’ve selected.
- Delivery & Installation: Coordination of the final arrival at your job site or home.

What materials are your cabinets made from?
At Cabinet Fantastic, we prioritize durability and quality, selecting materials that ensure your cabinetry is as sturdy as it is beautiful. Our cabinets are built to high industry standards, focusing on premium construction methods that stand up to daily use.
In most cases, the cabinetry lines we represent are available in both furniture board as well as plywood.

Cabinetry Construction Materials
- All-Plywood Construction: Unlike many mass-market options that use particle board, all-plywood construction is our standard. Plywood offers superior strength, better moisture resistance, and higher durability over time, making it the ideal choice for both kitchens and bathrooms.
- Solid Wood Doors: Our cabinetry features high-quality door construction. For example, our recessed panel doors utilize reverse-raised solid center panel construction, providing the classic look of a recessed panel with the structural integrity of a solid wood piece.
- Artisan Finishes: We offer a wide range of finishes, including professional-grade paints, stains, and protective coatings designed to highlight the natural beauty of the wood while providing a long-lasting, easy-to-clean surface.
Countertop & Surface Materials
Beyond the cabinets themselves, we offer a curated selection of premium surfaces to complete your design:
- Premium Stone: Including high-durability quartz and natural granite.
- Artisan Wood: We specialize in natural wood countertops that add organic warmth and a unique, handcrafted feel to your space.
Why Material Choice Matters
Choosing the right materials is essential for ensuring your investment lasts for decades. In the Pacific Northwest climate, selecting moisture-resistant plywood and high-quality solid wood components helps prevent warping and wear, ensuring your kitchen remains a centerpiece of your home.

What is the difference between framed and frameless cabinets?
We offer a wide variety of door styles and finishes ranging from modular to fully custom, which allows us to provide both framed and frameless cabinetry to suit your home’s unique aesthetic.
Understanding the difference between these two construction styles is essential for choosing the right look and functionality for your Portland home.
The quickest way to determine whether a cabinet is framed or frameless is to look at where the door hinge attaches. On a framed cabinet, the hinge attaches to a frame that is attached to the front of the cabinet. Frames are typically 1.5” wide, with a dado on the back where the side walls of the cabinet slot into. With frameless cabinets, the hinge attaches inside the side wall of the cabinet. In this application, the doors and drawer fronts must be oversized and mostly cover the width and height of the cabinet box. This construction is also called “Full access” or “European” construction.

Framed Cabinetry (Traditional Style)
Framed cabinets are a staple of traditional American construction. They feature a 1.5-inch face frame (similar to a picture frame) attached to the front of the cabinet box.
- Aesthetic: Provides a classic, timeless look often found in Craftsman or Victorian homes.
- Durability: The face frame adds structural rigidity to the cabinet box.
- Door Mounting: Hinges are secured to the face frame. This style allows for “partial overlay” or “full overlay” door designs, as well as “inset” doors where the door sits flush inside the frame.
Frameless Cabinetry (Modern / European Style)
Frameless cabinets, often referred to as European-style cabinetry, lack a face frame. The doors are attached directly to the sides of the cabinet box.
- Aesthetic: Offers a sleek, contemporary, and seamless appearance with clean lines.
- Storage Capacity: Because there is no face frame obstructing the opening, frameless cabinets provide slightly more interior space and easier access to items, which is a major benefit in smaller kitchens.
- Door Mounting: Uses “full overlay” doors that cover the entire front of the cabinet box, leaving only a tiny gap between doors.
Which Is Right for Your Project?
At Cabinet Fantastic, our professional designers help you navigate these choices during your consultation:
- Framed is often the go-to for homeowners looking for a traditional or transitional feel.
- Frameless is ideal for modern Pearl District condos or contemporary renovations where maximizing storage and achieving a minimalist look is a priority.
